On the morning of May 21st we took a little bit of time out of our trip to examine the different organizations involved in making the Olympic Games happen. Next on the itinerary we had planned was to take a trek to the most famous museum in the world: The Louvre. After hiking down a grueling 1 "Rue"in the rain we decided that it was too much for us. After an hour intermission and some televised French basketball the time was, "now or never." At the Louvre we first went through the ancient Roman section. I was in awe of the sculptures of man taking part in the earliest forms of sport. Sculptures of what looked like to be shot-put, wrestling, and track. We then finally made it around the museum to what everyone was looking forward to most: The Mona Lisa. Surrounded by hundreds of people, we really got to see the sentimental meaning it held. Through the hundreds of people, 3 others and I got seperated from the group. Running through the museum to get to Hammurabi's Code was a memorable experience. As we ran through the museum security would be yelling at us to slow down because running was against the rules. It was very surreal thinking that I was breaking the rules to get my way toward the first rules of written history. It was like I was running back in time. The fire alarm went off as soon as we saw everything we needed to see. We then ate lunch at a typical French brasserie. There I learned the most valuable lesson of the trip. In France, don't ask for refills! The waiter didn't let me hear the end of it. I just figured a thirty euro salad+coffee was a little less than my money's worth.
After a rainy yet fun-filled and exciting day, I just look forward to making the most of Paris within the next two days. -Jonny
