On May 20th we were out the door by 8 am and headed on the Eurostar high speed trade to Paris! We whisked through the southern English countryside, under the English channel and then sped through northern France. It was definitely an easy trip, it was only 2 and a half hours long! We arrived in Paris and I was named translator because I spoke it in high school. I speak a very broken French so it's going to be interesting. Paris is an hour ahead of London so we are now 6 hours ahead of the states. We headed to our hotel on the metro with our bags and what a struggle it was. So many stairs, so little time. We made it though and our hotel is amazing!
The weather was the nicest its been the whole trip (sunny and 60s). We walked around the Bastille area (where the French Revolution is remembered) and then headed along the Seine river to see Notre Dame cathedral. On our way we stopped at a French holocaust memorial. It was a really cool place that was unique to the things we have seen thus far on the trip. We walked over to Notre Dame and took some photos. It was beautiful!
We headed back towards the Bastille area for dinner and drove the French waiter at the cafe nuts. He thought it was hilarious. At dinner Mike bet Jon fudge that he couldn't eat two sugar cubes drenched in hot sauce. Jon accepted the challenge and won the fudge but turned as red as his shirt and teared up in the process. He was disappointed that Mike's reward was only one piece of fudge.
We returned to our hotel and the girls decided we wanted ice cream. I asked a woman where the ice cream shop was and asked "est-ce que tu savez ou est une place de glace?" translation: "do you wash where an ice cream place is?" she responded: "la glace?" translation: "ice cream?" obviously aware that I mistook the word for "to know" for "to wash". Whoops. She explained to me where it was in French and Delana and I found it! We felt so accomplished. So excited to go exploring some more tomorrow! Bon soir!
